Jar of Flowers Birthday Card

Hello and Welcome!  I know I keep promising (or is it more like a threat lol) that I am going to be bringing you Christmas projects and I am, but there's been a few occasions that have gotten in the way.  Thankfully, I have the projects created, you just haven't seen them yet!  Today's project is a birthday card that I created for a friend who is celebrating her birthday this weekend.  She likes more of a rustic feel so I chose to emboss the Soft Suede layer with the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder.  Her birthday falls in October, so I chose the sunflowers in the Jar of Flowers stamp set and coloured them using traditional Fall colours - Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight and blended these colours to get that Fall-feel.  I haven't played around much with the blends lately, but I do love them.  It takes some getting used to, especially if you are looking to blend colours.  They work great as a marker for colouring as you don't get the stroke lines like you do with traditional markers.  I still love our markers, but I find that since Stampin' Up! has introduced the Blends, I use our markers more for colouring directly onto the stamps or for small sentiments that I have a habit of over-inking if I'm using the ink pads.  I find I can control the ink a bit better if I colour it with the marker.

I did use the Jar Punch that is part of the bundle and as I was fussy-cutting out the flowers, wished that they had a die or a punch as well, as one of my least favourite things is fussy-cutting.  That and tying bows, but that's another story (and yes, there is a bow on this card and yes, I tied it myself.  Sheila would be proud!)  I really liked the metallic ribbon and wanted to add a bit more copper to the card front, so I popped up the birthday sentiment (from Beautiful Friendship stamp set) onto a piece of the Copper Foil.  I used the Stitched Shapes dies to cut out both the sentiment and the Copper Foil square layer.  I popped up both the flowers (that were painfully fussy cut out) and the layered sentiment.  It actually isn't that bad to cut the flowers out and doesn't take that long, I just haven't had anything else to whine about today :)

I hope you like today's project (and even more so I hope my friend likes her card when I give it to her!).  If you are inspired to make one similar or the same as this one and need some product, please don't hesitate to either contact me directly or to click on any of the images below the Supply List and you will be redirected to my online store where you can shop for current Stampin' Up! products anytime you like.
