Have you ever thought about running your own business?

I wanted to take a break today from creative posts and just share in a bit more detail my story and my path to becoming a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  I am an accountant by trade, a CMA (now CPA as the designations merged several years ago).  To put it bluntly, it's not something I enjoy.  And it's not the duties themselves that I don't enjoy (I actually still do some bookkeeping on the side), it's everything else that comes with a 9 to 5 job.  I'm not a morning person, so getting up and having to function by 8 every day does not resonate well with me.  In saying that, I do get up early to have a coffee with Scott before he leaves for work, but there are days that I go back to bed when he leaves as I've had a bad night's sleep or I'm just played out and not ready to face the day.  The difference is that it's my choice to get up - I'm not forced to.

I don't like the fact that 40 hours of my week are dedicated to making money for someone else.  Yes, as an accountant I am paid an above average salary but it doesn't cover the cost of the stress and the overtime that are expected in my line of work.  I'm just expected to cope and no amount of reward, monetary or otherwise covers the toll that this eventually takes on my well-being.  In truth, since becoming a demonstrator, I put in more than 40 hours per week, but I don't notice it because not only is the work I do enjoyable, but I'm challenging myself, learning new skills, setting my own expectations.  And I know at the end of the day that each hour I put in will be rewarded and sometimes it's just knowing myself that I have done something well and feeling pride in what I have created.

I never felt that I had anything to conquer as an accountant.  I felt like the "necessary evil" of a company as it was my role to ensure that paperwork and numbers were in order. I was tolerated during months the company did well and "public enemy #1" in months that losses were incurred.  As if I had any bearing on whether or not the company made money or not.  Now, I have full control over this.  If I choose not to do something, I run the risk of losing out on a business opportunity.  I am fully responsible for the gains and losses in my business or perhaps a better way of saying that is I am fully responsible for how I react to the situations that arise in my business.  Choosing not to act, is still a choice.

If you're still with me, thank you.  I merely want to extend the opportunity to you.  If you have ever thought about running your own business, and more specifically a crafting business, now is a wonderful time to join the Stampin' Up! family and become a member of my team.  There is a fantastic promotion on right now until the end of September.  It's called the Get & Go Starter Kit Promotion and you get additional product if you sign up before September 30th - 16 packs of precut paper to make 16 cards, So Much Love Stamp Set, Queen Anne's Lace Stamp Set and Rhinestone Basic Jewels.  This is over and above the $165 of product that you can choose from for only $135.  And your reason for joining can be as simple as I want the new Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine for the bargain price of $135 (no taxes, and shipping is FREE).  Or maybe you want to get your Stampin' Up! products at a 20% discount for the next 3 months or however long you decide to stay a demonstrator for.  You don't have to do this full-time either, most of the demonstrators are hobby or part-time demonstrators - they sell enough product to maintain their demonstrator status and help pay for their hobby supplies.  Whatever your reason, I encourage you to give it some thought between now and the end of September.  I've included the link here if you are interested in exploring more about joining.  You can also always contact me directly to chat about it.

I appreciate you hearing me out and even if now is not a good time for you to join, perhaps in the future it will be the right time and we can talk then.  Take Care!
